Vegan faves at Natural Products Expo West
Plenty of foods and beverages at Natural Products Expo West shunned animal products. But these 12 vegan products stood out because of their innovative ingredients and unparalleled taste.
Mavuno Harvest Organic Jackfruit
We saw jackfruit incorporated into a few vegan products as a meat replacement at Natural Products Expo West. Stew it in spices and sauce and you get something that resembles pulled pork. But Mavuno Harvest was the only brand spotted that used high-fiber jackfruit as a sweet snack. Only organic, dried jackfruit is inside this bag—and it’s surprisingly satisfying. Chewy and sweet. But the best part about Mavuno Harvest is that the company has a phenomenal sourcing story. Founded by a Peace Corp volunteer, Mavuno Harvest sources ingredients from Sub-Saharan Africa, and according to the website, “works with farmers to plan social and community projects such as libraries, and health and education centers.”
Koukla Delights Matcha Macaroons
Soft, bright green sweets made without dairy, gluten, soy, agave, refined sugar and GMOs. So what are they made of? Just five USDA Organic ingredients: matcha tea, coconut, maple syrup, vanilla extract and Himalayan salt. Products are never heated above 115 degrees to preserve nutrients. We especially like how these orbs feature antioxidant-packed matcha as the first ingredient.
Cloud Top Certified Organic & Vegan Frozen Yogurt
This soft-serve frozen yogurt is only available for foodservice, not packaged for consumer sale in the aisle. It's worthy of mention because it’s a truly decadent, organic vegan soft serve that features clean ingredients, which include coconut milk, evaporated cane juice, brown rice syrup, rice milk powder, sunflower lecithin and more. It’s also cultured with live probiotics, which boosts the flavor. This dairy-free treat was so enjoyable. (The company also provides a clean dairy formula, too.)
Kite Hill Cream Cheese Style Spread Plain
Kite Hill says its nut-based cream cheese has been on the market for a bit—so it’s not exactly new. But it’s worthy of mention because it’s everything you want in a cream cheese: it spreads, it’s creamy, it’s tangy, it’s sweet. Made with a vegan and gluten-free blend of cultured almond milk, salt, enzymes, vinegar, xanthan, locust bean and guar gums, and cultures.
Pressed by KIND Pineapple Coconut Chia
New from the good folks at KIND is this fruit and chia seed-based bar, which is a gluten-free, dairy-free snack. Each bar delivers two servings of fruit, thanks to a superclean ingredient list. This bar contains just pineapple, apple, coconut and chia for a bit of fiber and 310 mg of ALA omega-3s. Sweet!
Hope Hummus Organic Lemon Peppercorn
The clean, organic and HPP hummus and dips coming from Hope continue to impress. This Natural Products Expo West was no different, thanks to the Boulder-based brand’s tasty, refreshing new flavor of hummus: Lemon Peppercorn. Also new: A line of versatile guacamoles!
LeGrand Indian Dahl Soup
This tasty new soup line by LeGrand is entirely vegan. Five flavors ranging from Super Greens to Indian Dahl feature straightforward ingredients (red peppers, butternut squash, potatoes, nutritional yeast, etc.) crafted into extraordinary meals. Each soup is encased in a resealable BPA-free clear pouch—consumers can see the goodness inside, which hints at brand transparency.

All for 230 calories and 10 grams plant-based protein.
Yes Cacao Dirty Chocolate
Functional chocolate that’s packed with healthful botanicals and tastes like you’re having dessert? We’ll give a resounding “yes!” to that. This Certified Vegan chocolate is made with USDA Organic cacao, sundried cane juice crystals, lucuma, maca, mesquite, reishi, vanilla bean, wild-harvested shilajit, an ayurvedic mineral pitch, gynostemma, Himalayan salt, fennel and peppermint. Phew! Yes Cacao says this bar is designed to launch you into your day.
Bakeology Crunchy Cookie Bites Chocolate Chip Cookies
These crunchy, sandy mini-cookies are addictive and craveable. Made with a gluten-free flour blend containing white rice flour, organic almond flour and tapioca starch, these Certified Gluten Free, vegan cookies are a satisfying, perfectly proportioned plant-based treat.
Daiya Deliciously Dairy-Free Creamy Caesar Dressing
New on Daiya's docket is a line of creamy salad dressings that typically contain dairy. Available in Blue Cheeze, Homestyle Ranch and Creamy Caesar, these condiments are also gluten free and soy free, and perfectly pair on your side salad with another one of Daiya’s new products: Meatless Pepperoni Pizza made with an in-house plant-based pepperoni. So. Good.
Little Northern Bakehouse Delicious Gluten Free Buns Millet & Chia
It’s rare to find a gluten-free and vegan bread that actually tastes like something I could enjoy. But this Canadian brand’s newest buns can stand up to heavy, bean-filled veggie burgers and the most viscous of condiments. Made with a blend of tapioca, potato, corn and sorghum starches, these buns are infused with crunchy, nutritious add-ins, like whole chia seeds and whole millet.
