Canadian Olympians amd Paralympians From Coast to Coast Gain 'Healthy Edge' with $1 Million of COLD-FX

Canada’s Seven Sport Centres jointly announced today a sponsorship agreement with CV Technologies to provide nearly 40,000 bottles of COLD-FX® to Canada’s top Olympians, Paralympians and national team athletes, coaches and support staff. Thirty top athletes joined CV Technologies officials, Canadian Sport Centre staff, physicians, dietitians and physiologists at a news conference at Calgary’s Olympic training centre for the million dollar announcement - the largest of its kind that COLD-FX has ever made.

“We encourage the athletes to be very diligent regarding what they put in their bodies,” said Dale Henwood, president of Canadian Sport Centre Calgary (CSCC), “we are confident in the testing and scientific research that has gone into this product and in recommending COLD-FX to the athletes and their support teams.”

COLD-FX will be made available to both summer and winter athletes, coaches and support staff through distribution at the seven Canadian Sport Centres across the country - Atlantic, Montreal, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Calgary and Pacific.

“Many of the athletes training in Calgary have been using COLD-FX for a number of years. This agreement has expanded the support to the other six sport centres across the country,” added Henwood, speaking on behalf of the Canadian Sport Centre network. “We are impressed that CV Technologies not only realizes the importance of keeping the athletes in good health, but in helping the ‘team behind the team’ stay healthy as well”.

“The common cold is an ailment that worries athletes and impacts performance dramatically,” said Dr. David Smith, Director of Sport Science for the CSCC. “Our number one philosophy toward peak performance is to have a healthy, fit athlete with a sound psychological platform going into any major competition. In the past COLD-FX has certainly helped us in that regard here in Calgary. Now it will be available to top athletes across the country.”

Three Olympians recounted at the news conference how they’ve incorporated COLD-FX into their training regimen. Olympic gold medal speed skater Clara Hughes began taking COLD-FX six years ago. She calls it her “secret weapon,” adding that “fear of getting sick from colds or flu is always on our minds as athletes. We’re often vulnerable. I can be prepared in every way and a germ can knock me out of competition at a critical moment.”

Dr. Jacqueline Shan, president and Chief Scientific Officer of CV Technologies says the company has affiliated itself with athletes for many years. “We’ve been connected with both amateur and professional sports like the NHL and CFL for many years now including Olympians. This is our way of trying to help all of our athletes pursue gold in 2010. It’s only eleven months away and we want to help keep them at their healthiest.”

Last month, COLD-FX became the Official Cold/Flu Remedy of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. As part of the sponsorship, COLD-FX will be provided to VANOC for its use. In addition, COLD-FX will be available at general stores within the Olympic and Paralympic Villages in Vancouver and Whistler during the 2010 Winter Games.
