Acatris Presents Study Results at Soy & Health Conference in Bruges

October 6, 2004 -- Giessen, The Netherlands - At the Soy & Health 2004 conference Acatris will present two posters explaining the latest study results on their LifeLINE™ products. The Soy & Health conference addresses many topics related to soy and its health aspects. One poster presents safety data of the SoyLife® and LinumLife™ products. The second illustrates the results of a clinical trial with Chinese postmenopausal women and the effect of SoyLife on bone health, blood lipids and hot flashes. The event takes place on 7 and 8 October 2004 in Bruges, Belgium.

SoyLife is an ingredient made from the soy germ, in which the isoflavones are concentrated. The source for LinumLife is flax seed. LinumLife contains high amounts of lignans, like isoflavones also phytoestrogens.

Dr. Marian Verbruggen, R&D Director of Acatris says: “Although both flax and soy have been consumed in substantial amounts for ages without problems, we still believe that the safety of any isolated or concentrated form of these food items should be confirmed.” Upon a series of tests it could be concluded that both SoyLife EXTRA (10% isoflavones) and the new product LinumLife EXTRA (20% lignans) do not show any mutagenic effects. The tests were performed according to OECD standards.

“At the moment we are yielding a lot of results from studies with SoyLife”, says Paulina Dabrowska, Technical Service Manager with Acatris, “we are happy to present them especially at an event such as the Soy & Health conference, where the international scientific world is represented.” It is important to further research the data on the effects of soy on health.

The SoyLife study reports positive effects of SoyLife on bone health, blood lipid and hot flashes according to a study in China with a group of post-menopausal women.
