Archer Daniels Midland Company, manufacturer and supplier of Novasoy® brand soy isoflavones, has reached a licensing agreement with Acatris, Inc., for the sale and marketing of soy germ-based isoflavones. As a result of the agreement, Acatris and its customers will have access to soy germ isoflavone patent rights required to market and sell supplements carrying certain women’s health claims.
Soy germ-based isoflavones have a unique composition, which is significantly different from that of Novasoy® brand soy isoflavones. ADM will continue to sell and fully support Novasoy® brand soy isoflavones with innovative marketing and PR efforts, including a branding program for customers, as well as a strong commitment to science.
Earlier this year, ADM announced its acquisition of The Solae Company’s global soy isoflavone business. Through this acquisition, ADM built on its existing intellectual property portfolio with the soy isoflavone patent estate purchased from Solae which also included patent rights owned by Novogen Limited that are now licensed by ADM.
“A licensing agreement with Acatris, the leading supplier of soy germ isoflavones, will ensure customers requiring the unique isoflavone profile of soy germ still have access to the necessary patent rights required to market and sell supplements carrying certain women's health claims,” said Steven J. Furcich, President, ADM Natural Health and Nutrition. “ADM looks forward to additional cooperation with Acatris on other ingredient offerings, including flax products.”
ADM does not plan to introduce a "soy germ" isoflavones product line in addition to its Novasoy® brand soy isoflavones line. Acatris is the only other supplier in the market with this broad range of rights to ADM’s patent portfolio, including rights to pending applications, continuations and reissues.
