Bioriginal Affirms the Purity and Potency of Its Fish Oils

In response to a recent lawsuit alleging that some fish oil supplements may contain unsafe levels of polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, Bioriginal Food & Science Corp., a leading supplier of Essential Fatty Acid oils, issued a statement affirming the quality and purity of its fish oils.

The majority of Bioriginal’s fish oils are sourced from only the smallest fish species (anchovy & sardine), which naturally contain lower levels of harmful contaminants and higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids. These small species are harvested from the pristine waters off the coast of Peru, utilizing environmentally friendly practices and stringent harvest controls ensuring an environmentally responsible, pure product.

As well, to ensure quality and purity, all Bioriginal fish oil products undergo an extensive purification process, which removes environmental contaminants such as PCBs to levels well below the stringent safety limits established. In addition, Bioriginal’s fish oil products are third-party tested according to AOCS international protocols to ensure oil quality, safety and efficacy. Further independent testing confirms Bioriginal’s fish oils exceed industry standards for dioxins, PCB’s, and heavy metals including mercury.

According to the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED), 93 percent of refined fish oils on the market in the United States are produced from anchovies and sardines, yet only one of these types of oils was tested by the plaintiffs and had PCB content well within the Safe Harbor provisions of Proposition 65.
