Cargill Continues Commitment to Help Educate Dietitians on the Benefits of CoroWise™ Plant Sterols

Heart healthy products containing CoroWise™ plant sterols will be showcased at the American Dietitians Association Meeting

MINNEAPOLIS – Cargill Health & Food Technologies (H&FT) will showcase heart healthy consumer products containing CoroWise™ plant sterols at the American Dietetic Association (ADA) Conference, to be held October 3-5, 2004 in Anaheim, Calif.

“Cargill is committed to helping educate healthcare professionals on the benefits of its new health promoting ingredients,” said Ted Ziemann, president, Cargill H&FT. Heart disease is a major health concern in the United States and Cargill offers ingredients to address this issue.

CoroWise™ plant sterols have been clinically shown to lower cholesterol, and products containing them are eligible for the FDA health claim: foods containing at least 0.4 g per serving of plant sterols, consumed twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 0.8 g, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.

“It is exciting that big name consumer brands are launching great tasting, convenient, heart healthy products containing CoroWise™ plant sterols,” said Steve Snyder, vice president of sales & marketing, Cargill H&FT. A number of these new products will be featured at Cargill booth #2626

“Our presence at the ADA show not only allows us to further educate healthcare professionals on the benefits of CoroWise™ plant sterols, but it also allows us to feature our customers’ products so dietitians can be mindful of this information when recommending heart healthy lifestyle changes to clients,” said Pam Stauffer, marketing programs manager, Cargill H&FT. Insights gained at the show will also be used to develop new product applications.

Cargill H&FT is part of a larger Cargill initiative called Food System Design. Food System Design works in concert with customers to produce ingredients, ingredient systems and food system breakthroughs that result in affordable, nutritious, convenient and appetizing consumer products.
