Cargill's Newly Patented Prolisse Soy Protein Isolate Beverage Provides Exciting Beverage Opportunities For Manufacturers

MINNEAPOLIS - Cargill has been awarded patent #6,720,020 B2 for beverage formulas supplemented with Prolisse™ soy protein isolates, which already are being well-received by beverage manufacturers for their neutral flavor - a key attribute for soy products - and for their ability to remain suspended in liquid.

“These qualities open the door to many great applications, including liquid and dry powdered beverages, plus they allow beverage manufacturers to meet or exceed the 6.25 grams per serving of soy protein required by the Food and Drug Administration to make the heart health claim on the label,” said Mike Matthews, director of soy protein isolates, Cargill Health & Food Technologies (H&FT). “One of our prototype beverages, Dulce de Latte, contains 12.6 grams of soy protein per 8 oz. serving and showed no negative impact on taste and stability after 15 months of refrigerated storage.” Soon-to-be released consumer products, created in collaboration with two nationally-known beverage manufacturers, include a chai tea with 10 grams of soy protein per serving, and a women's sports beverage with 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving.
