Dr. Jan McBarron, fondly known by her listeners as “Doctor Jan” of the top radio show Duke and The Doctor, has been named a 2010 recipient of the Clinician of the Year Award by the Natural Products Association.
According to the NPA, “The Clinician Award recognizes licensed healthcare practitioners whose work exemplifies the best standards and dedication to responsible holistic, non-invasive and integrative, complementary and alternative medicine modalities”.
Dr. McBarron received her M.D. from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. After seeing the effects prescription drugs had on her patients, Dr. McBarron took an interest in natural alternatives and went on to earn a naturopathic doctorate. She advocates to her patients holistic care, including vitamins and herbs as healthier and less expensive alternatives to prescription drugs.
This same approach is given to the listeners of the Duke and The Doctor radio show, as both Duke Liberatore and Dr. McBarron strive to provide the most up-to-date information and scientific advances on holistic care. This includes summarizing and explaining medical studies and informing about the latest in natural supplements.
“Many people are seeking more information about holistic care that is often not provided by their physician”, commented Dr. McBarron, “That’s why I try to provide this information for my patients, as well as the listeners of Duke and The Doctor. When people are educated about their healthcare options they can make informed, proactive choices.”
In celebration of the Clinician of the Year honor, Duke and The Doctor will be hosting a live radio show in Las Vegas during the Natural Marketplace 2010 in June—the official show of the Natural Products Association—as well as holding a special reception. Additionally, as a special thanks to their loyal listeners, they are running a contest to fly winners to Vegas to participate in the award weekend. More details about the award and contest can be found at DukeandTheDoctor.com.
