June 29, 2008, New Orleans, La. – The International Taste & Quality Institute, iTQi, Brussels, recently presented the 2008 “Superior Taste Awards” for three Omevital™ Omega-3 products to Napro Pharma, a Cognis subsidiary that specializes in the manufacture of these marine sourced, health-enhancing ingredients for the nutrition industry. This is the second time the iTQi has recognized Napro Pharma for its superior tasting flavored Omega-3.
The International Taste & Quality Institute, iTQi, Brussels, is the leading independent Chef- and Sommelier- based organization dedicated to “judging, honoring and promoting superior tasting food and drink from around the world.”
“It’s one thing to say your product is characterized by its superior sensory profile, but this award from outside global experts provides invaluable perspective for our customers,” said Robert Bailey, Marketing Manager, Cognis Nutrition & Health. He explained that the Omevital™ line of marine-sourced Omega-3 fatty acids have no fishy taste or odor and no reflux after intake (“fish oil repeat”). The formulations are tailor-made to specific customer needs and can also be flavored or blended with other ingredients. All products are harvested from sustainable and renewable, cold-water deep sea marine sources. Manufacturing is done under full compliance with all GMP standards and includes extensive quality testing throughout the process.
Omevital™ Omega-3 fatty acids are marine-sourced and thus excellent sources of EPA and DHA. The fatty acids EPA and DHA provide significantly more health benefits than plant-based Omega-3 containing only ALA. The fatty acid ALA must be converted to EPA and DHA before it can be used by the human body. Due to ALA’s inefficient conversion rate (approximately 2%), consumption levels must be unrealistically high to achieve the desired health benefits. Cognis’ Omevital™ product line delivers all the nutritional value of marine-sourced Omega-3 combined with an award-winning sensory profile.
Omega-3 fatty acids are one of the fastest growing nutritional ingredients, mainly due to the high level of consumer awareness of the health benefits of Omega-3 EPA and DHA. Recent market analysis has forecasted that Omega-3 fortified foods could exceed $8 billion in retail sales. Cognis is well equipped to support customers in the development of functional foods fortified with the multiple health benefits of Omega-3. Cognis will be featuring the Omevital™ product line at the 2008 IFT Food Expo as part of their overall focus on heart healthy functional foods.
Cognis markets their Omevital™ products for the North American dietary supplement industry exclusively through Marine Nurticeutical Corporation.
