WASHINGTON – March 21, 2007- Four prominent members of Congress who formed the Dietary Supplement Caucus have distributed a "Dear Colleague" letter to all 535 members of Congress inviting them to a luncheon and presentation organized by the Dietary Supplement Education Alliance (DSEA) next week in Washington. The event is designed to update members of the industry, members of Congress and other interested parties on the health care cost-savings potential of dietary supplements, as well as the latest research in the field.
Reps. Chris Cannon (R-Utah), Frank Pallone (D-N.J.), Dan Burton (R-Ind.) and Ed Townes (D-N.Y.) signed the letter that asked members of Congress and their staffs to attend the event and to join the Dietary Supplement Caucus. The lunch briefing takes place Tuesday, March 27, 1pm - 2:30pm in the House Rayburn building, room B-369. Speakers include Dr. Joan DaVanzo of The Lewin Group, Dr. Dan Fabricant of the Natural Products Association, and Dr. Steven Dentali of the American Herbal Products Association. DSEA is a coalition of industry leaders whose mission is to educate consumers, media and policymakers on the benefits of dietary supplements for optimizing health and prevention of disease, with a focus on their safety, efficacy and regulation. Its donors include nutritional and dietary supplement suppliers, manufacturers, retailers and publishers.
