Wareham, Massachusetts (January 5, 2004) Jim’s Organic Coffee is making this Earth Day 2004 extra special for thousands of people living in Asia and Africa by giving the gift of safe water and sanitation. The company will be donating 10 cents per pound sold of their single origin coffees to WaterAid during their Earth Day promotion lasting the entire month of April 2004. “Most people take clean water for granted,” says Jim Cannell, President of Jim’s Organic Coffee. “We hope to educate folks about WaterAid’s mission and how important their work is.” WaterAid (www.wateraid.org) is an international non-government organization dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world’s poorest people specifically in Asia and Africa. “Part of the reason we chose WaterAid is that they do work in Uganda and Ethiopia. Two of our organic varietals come from these countries and are personally very special to me,” adds Jim. The company’s Ethiopian coffee is grown at high elevations in ideal growing conditions with rich biodiversity. Its taste offers great depth and a unique lemony flavor. The Ugandan varietal, grown at the source of the Nile River, carries a spicy, blackberry-like quality. Its notoriety includes being the first certified organic coffee to come out of Africa.
Jim’s Organic Coffee will launch their “Coffees of the World” promotion starting April 1st in commem-oration of Earth Day by featuring 15% off all of their varietal or single origin coffees. The list includes Mexican Altura, Guatemalan Atitlan, Costa Rican, Colombian, Peru, Ugandan, Ethiopian and Indonesian Sumatra. The promotion applies to both the 12 oz. bags and bulk. Stores may order a shipper display of 12 oz bags that include earth day signage and donation information. Emily Boyd-Carpenter from WaterAid comments, “We are so pleased that Jim’s Organic Coffee will again donate money this April through their “Coffees of the World” Earth Day special. Companies like Jim’s can change the face of these destitute places by giving back not only a portion of their profits but also by providing publicity and education.”
