Leading Adult Nutritional First to Introduce Reclosable Bottle
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 5 -- Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) announced today it is "kicking the can" and introducing an eight- fluid-ounce reclosable plastic bottle for Ensure(R) nutritionals, a first in the adult nutritional category. The new Ensure bottle is now appearing on store shelves and is expected to be widely available by the end of summer.
In response to consumer demand for greater ease and portability, the new reclosable bottle offers a more convenient way to enjoy the complete, balanced nutrition of Ensure for a healthy, active and energetic lifestyle. In fact, consumer research showed an overwhelming preference for the reclosable bottle versus the existing can.
"Through extensive consumer research, we found our users wanted, and needed, a more convenient nutrition option to fuel their active lifestyles," said Mark F. The reclosable bottle comes just in time to honor Ensure's 30th anniversary and will be available wherever Ensure is sold as well as at www.ensure.com . The bottles will be available in six-packs and in five delicious flavors: vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, strawberry and coffee latte.
Abbott's Ross Products Division plans to introduce the new Ensure reclosable bottle to all of its existing retail sales outlets, including drug, food, mass merchandisers and club stores. The remaining varieties of the Ensure product line -- Ensure Plus(R), Ensure(R) High Protein, Ensure(R) High Calcium, and Ensure(R) Fiber With FOS -- are expected to be available in the reclosable bottle over the next 18 months. A robust marketing plan of broadcast advertising, national events, product displays, sampling, and coupons will support the new packaging launch. In addition, a special in- store display will feature single bottles of Ensure to showcase the product's convenience and portability.
