ExxonMobil earns safety certification for food-grade lubricants

Mobil SHC Cibus is the first lubricant range to receive ISO 22000: 2005 certification, one of the most stringent for lubricants applied to safety in food machinery.

ExxonMobil Lubricants & Petroleum Specialties Company, a division of Exxon Mobil Corp., announced it is the first lubricant provider to have achieved ISO 22000:2005 certification for the manufacture of its NSF H1-registered, Mobil SHC™ Cibus family of high performance synthetic lubricants.  This accreditation, alongside the energy efficiency benefits of the Mobil SHC Cibus range, can help companies optimise the safety and performance of their operations.

The ISO 22000 certification is one of the industry’s most recognised, stringent and comprehensive food and beverage safety standards. Established by the International Organization of Standardization, ISO 22000 is a food safety management system with a set of specified requirements that ensure a company’s ability to control food safety at every step of the manufacturing process. As product safety is the number one priority for food manufacturers, the ISO accreditation of the Mobil SHC Cibus range provides greater reassurance of maintaining product integrity throughout the production process.

The new safety recognition comes shortly after ExxonMobil revealed the energy efficiency potential of the Mobil SHC Cibus Series. Food and beverage companies can achieve potential energy efficiency savings of up to 3.6 percent by using this advanced synthetic lubrication in gear oil applications. Another key benefit is that Mobil SHC Cibus Series lubricants are formulated to meet nut-, wheat- and gluten free requirements and are suitable under Halal and Kosher dietary law.

Ideal for hydraulic, gear air compressor applications, the Mobil SHC Cibus Series lubricants offer high load carrying capacity, excellent wear protection, long-term oxidation stability and anti-rust and anti-corrosion features. In addition to prolonging machinery life, the series can help to extend oil drain intervals to help food and beverage processors realise valuable efficiency and sustainability benefits.

“ExxonMobil is committed to satisfying even the highest standards of manufacturing hygiene and safety, and we are proud to again lead our peers in the lubricant industry by becoming the first company to achieve ISO 22000 certification,” said Ian Davidson, global industrial marketing manager, ExxonMobil Lubricants & Petroleum Specialties Company.  “In addition to protecting product integrity during manufacturing, companies can also improve the energy efficiency and productivity of their operations by switching to Mobil SHC Cibus lubricants.”
