Food By Design, Inc. Publishes HEAL Nutrition System to Guide Achievement of Dietary Goals

San Francisco, CA – August 6, 2004 - Food By Design, Inc., the developer of food products based on flax, soy, oats and other all natural ingredients, announced the publication of the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) system.

The system was developed in consultation with physicians and nutrition, food preparation and physical training professionals with the objective of reducing the risk of coronary heart disease, specific cancers, diabetes and other medical conditions. Weight control is a secondary objective. The system is based on recent medical and scientific information which suggests the benefits of a calorie controlled diet which is high in soy protein, soluble fiber, plant sterols, good fats and carbohydrates, potassium, calcium, antioxidants and other nutrients, but which restricts saturated fat and sodium.

Participants are encouraged to have a risk assessment performed with their physician including measurements of blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar and determination of a body weight target.
Each individual determines specific dietary and physical activity goals. The system guides participants in achieving their dietary goals through a "core and explore" meal plan which provides most of the targeted nutrients in the breakfast and snack phase. Remaining meals are discretionary as long as they include a varied intake of vegetables and do not exceed the budget for calories, saturated fat and sodium.

The system is easy to adopt for those currently on a traditional diet and for vegetarians. It also includes shopping lists and recommendations for eating away from home. All information, including a cookbook, is being distributed free via the company's web site at
