The Hain Celestial Group Launches Two Juices Fortified with FloraGlo® Lutein

MELVILLE, NY (June 12, 2003) – The Hain Celestial Group, Inc. has partnered with Kemin Foods to introduce two new juice products fortified with Kemin’s FloraGLO® Lutein.

Hain Pure Foods® Veggie Juice and Carrot Juice will be available through natural foods retailers nationwide in June 2003. These great-tasting juices are packed with vitamins and minerals and are made with no genetically engineered ingredients.

“We are impressed with the continued research supporting FloraGLO Lutein’s versatile role in good health. As a manufacturer of natural products, we were excited with the opportunity to partner with Kemin to make foods and beverages even better for consumers and to differentiate our products on the grocery shelf,” said Maureen Putman, general manager for the grocery business unit at The Hain Celestial Group.

The Hain Celestial Group’s new carrot and vegetable juices each contain 1 milligram of purified lutein per 8 oz. serving.

FloraGLO Lutein is the leading patent-protected, purified form of lutein on the market. 1 Nearly 300 published, peer-reviewed studies have documented the important health benefits of lutein for the eyes, skin and heart plus other health conditions. Research has also linked regular lutein intake with prevention of age-related macular degeneration—the leading cause of vision loss in the United States—and cataracts.

“FloraGLO Lutein has gained wide scientific and commercial acceptance within the vitamin and supplement field. Our relationship with Hain Celestial and their market-leading brands demonstrates the growing nutritional appeal of lutein for food and beverage applications,” said Cheryl Sturm, strategic marketing manager for foods and beverages at Kemin Foods.

FloraGLO Lutein is chemically identical to the lutein found predominantly in dark green, leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale, as well as eggs. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services statistics show most Americans don’t eat nearly enough of these foods to realize the health benefits from such naturally occurring lutein.2
