Association's 5th Annual Natural Products Lobbying Event to Broaden Base of Political Support in California
(Sacramento, CA) Friday, February 9, 2007 – Natural Products Association West (formerly NNFA-West) Natural Products “Lobby Day” has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, 2007, in Sacramento according to Dot Boyd, executive director of the Natural Products Association West. The event is designed to broaden the natural products industry's base of political support by educating members of the California Legislature about the important role natural products play in keeping Californians healthy.
“The regional association has built a solid reputation in Sacramento, fighting legislation detrimental to the industry while supporting bills that focus on health and wellness in the state,” said Boyd.
According to Boyd, each year the event grows with all segments of the natural products industry represented. The regional association does everything possible to make it easy for participants to be prepared and to feel confident when discussing industry issues and pending legislation.
“To protect our industry and livelihoods, we must be heard in Sacramento,” commented David Stouder, vice-president and political chairperson of Natural Products Association West. “All retailers and industry representatives should join us to make a difference.”
As in years past, Natural Products “Lobby Day” will begin with a morning breakfast and briefing session. Participants will learn how to effectively communicate industry positions on important issues and maximize visits with legislators. Participants will attend pre-arranged meetings with their legislators and staff with day ending open discussion and review of each team’s meetings.
Boyd also notes this event offers an effective way for all members of the natural products industry to establish and strengthen relationships with legislative members and their staff.
“I found it enjoyable and useful,” noted Karl Riedel from a supplement manufacturer’s viewpoint and president of Nature’s Life in Larkspur, CA.
“I feel NNFA-West did an incredible job of organizing Lobby Day in 2006,” said Michael LeVesque, owner of Vitamin Express Stores in San Francisco. “I look forward to participating this year.”
