Los Angeles, CA, January 3, 2006 — Every year, more than 42 million American women suffer from a condition called bacterial vaginosis. In addition, over 11 million suffer from bladder infections and more than 20 million from yeast vaginitis. Determined to be part of a new paradigm that will offer a complementary diet modification to drugs that have side effects, Los Angeles-based Jarrow Formulas’ is sponsoring an Expo West Seminar entitled, “Probiotics: Clinically Documented Strains to Support Women’s Health.” The seminar will highlight the world’s only science-based probiotics designed for women’s vaginal and urinary tract health. It will be held Friday, March 9, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Dr. Gregor Reid, a world renowned researcher in probiotics, is the featured speaker. He will discuss about clinically documented probiotics in vaginal and urinary tract health, as well as how to differentiate between clinically documented probiotics and other probiotics that are claimed to be “women-friendly” probiotics. He will also give new insight into mechanisms of action of Lactobacillus organisms GR-1® and RC-14®, and present updated scientific findings about problems afflicting women, and the rationale for probiotic intervention.
Originally from Scotland where he obtained a BSc Honors, Dr. Reid holds a Ph.D in Microbiology from Massey University and MBA from Monash University in Australia. After spells at the University of Calgary and the University of Toronto, he is currently Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, and Surgery at The University of Western Ontario in London, Canada.
