For the first time, LycoRed announces well-known consumer brands containing Lyco-O-Mato® 1%
The 2004 IFT Expo will be the backdrop for a New Products and Technologies Forum featuring innovations in healthy ingredients and functional foods. Presenting at this year's forum will be Dr. Zohar Nir, VP of Sales and Marketing for LycoRed Natural Products Industries, Ltd. of Beer Sheva, Israel.
Dr. Nir's presentation will focus on the innovative foods that contain Lyc-O-Mato® 1%, a new functional food ingredient developed by LycoRed. Lyc-O-Mato® 1% contains tomato lycopene plus a complete natural complex of tomato phytonutrients.
“This is an exciting breakthrough product that has numerous applications. The Lyc-O-Mato® 1% can be added to breads, yogurt, meats, snacks and nutritional bars,” commented Dr. Nir. “This is great news for healthy consumers who can now gain added protection from some of their favorite foods without sacrificing taste.”
This unique new ingredient has already been incorporated into many well-known healthy consumer brands, which will be unveiled at the event, along with new cutting-edge food and snack prototypes. Incorporating Lyc-O-Mato® 1% into food products both as a natural red colorant and as a source of tomato phytonutrients for food fortification, offers many advantages.
“This is the ideal time for manufacturers to introduce tomato phytonutrients into their food and beverage products,” commented Dr. Nir, referring to the large body of clinical studies substantiating the beneficial role of tomatoes and tomato products in the prevention of degenerative diseases. “Fortification with lycopene plus other antioxidants natural to the tomato will undoubtedly appeal to the health conscious consumer's demand for healthy foods and beverages.”
The Lyc-O-Mato® 1% is also ideally suited for many "low carbohydrate" applications where the reduction of carbohydrates in a formula reduces the products overall viscosity and mouthfeel. Lyc-0-Mato® 1% contains minimal amounts of carbohydrates and, therefore, the natural tomato fibers that are present contribute additional viscosity by absorbing up to 20 parts water in addition to providing improved mouthfeel.
Lyc-O-Mato® 1% was created using proprietary technology. The tomato pulp containing high levels of natural lycopene and other tomato phytonutrients, is separated from the fruit and carefully dried into a free flowing red powder. The result is an ingredient with a lycopene content eight times higher than that of conventional tomato powders. Because it contains only a small amount of soluble tomato solids, the powder can be added to practically any food without affecting its flavor.
Dr. Nir's lecture may be heard at the IFT Expo, 9:30am, Tuesday July 13, 2004 in Room N-208, Las Vegas Convention Center. Additional information on LycoRed food fortification ingredients can be picked up at the LycoRed Booth #2696.
