Maypro Industries' Oligonol(TM) Named Finalist for 2008 NutrAward

PURCHASE, NY, March 4, 2008 - Maypro Industries today announced that Oligonol(TM), a patented, all-natural super antioxidant ingredient consisting of oligomerized polyphenols, was named a finalist for the 2008 NutrAward. Oligonol, which was developed by Amino Up Chemical Company of Sapporo, Japan, and is marketed exclusively in the U.S. by Maypro, was recognized for the thorough and quantifiable scientific studies that support its ability to help promote healthy aging.* The 2008 NutrAward winner will be announced at the Nutracon Reception being held on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 4:00pm at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel.

"The NutrAward recognizes innovative, evidence-based health and nutrition ingredients and we are pleased to be named a finalist for this extremely prestigious award," stated Steve Yamada, President of Maypro.

Oligonol is a first-of-its-kind oligomerized polyphenol. Polyphenols, abundantly present in plants, are known for their antioxidant and anti-aging properties.* However, due to their high molecular weight, the absorption of polyphenols is limited. Oligonol is manufactured using a proprietary process developed by Amino Up that shortens polyphenol polymers from lychee fruit into monomers and short-chain oligomers, making them more bioavailable in the body. Oligonol exceeds traditional polyphenol products such as pine bark, grape seed and green tea in bioavailability and has higher antioxidant capacity than these phytonutrients as proven in ORAC, TEAC and lipid peroxidation assays. Just as oligomers are vital to the defense system of plants, Oligonol can help support the human defense system.*

A double blind, placebo-controlled study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food showed Oligonol's ability to reduce platelet reactivity in subjects with elevated risk of cardiovascular disease.* An additional double blind, placebo-controlled study of 47 athletes published in the Japanese Journal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine showed Oligonol to reduce post-exercise fatigue significantly.* An open label study of 17 women using a skin robo-analyzer revealed that Oligonol caused a 40 percent reduction in number of wrinkles and a 63 percent reduction in wrinkle size. Oligonol's superior bioavailability, which is due to its unique molecular structure and low molecular weight, was reported on by the journal Phytochemical Reviews.

Oligonol received significant attention at the International Congress of the Swiss Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, held in December 2007 in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Albert MacKenzie, M.D., an internationally recognized American dermatologist, highlighted Oligonol in his speech on the new trends in longevity medicine. Dr. MacKenzie discussed Oligonol's potential for helping to protect the skin from solar radiation exposure and praised the ingredient as one of the most promising new anti-aging antioxidants.* The Food and Drug Administration recently accepted a New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) notification for Oligonol in writing and without comment, concluding that it was safe to be legally marketed in the United States.

The NutrAward program was created to reward and to recognize companies that are investing in rigorous and measurable scientific studies to prove the efficacy of their proprietary ingredients or technologies. Submissions are considered by a selection committee composed of experts from industry and academia. The committee evaluates submissions based on demonstration of excellence in scientific merit, efficacy, market potential, safety, innovation and ability to increase market credibility.

The Nutracon conference ( is the health and nutrition industry's premier science and innovation event. It focuses on key issues in the development of supplements, healthy foods and beverages and personal care products. Nutracon is co-located with Natural Products Expo West and SupplyExpo.
