Minnesota Applied Research Center Awarded First Place in Poster Competition

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN (January 13, 2005) – The Minnesota Applied Research Center (MARC) today announced that the award winning poster was presented by John L. Zenk, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Joy L. Frestedt, PhD, Executive Director of Research, Sandra A. Leikam, RN, CCRC, and Sinoun Tep of MARC, and Michael A. Kuskowski, PhD of the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN. The poster competition was part of the Second Annual Natural Supplements: An Evidence Based Update conference organized by the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine and co-sponsored by the University of California, San Diego. The conference took place January 7-9 in San Diego and was attended by more than 200 practitioners with an expertise in Integrative Medicine and natural supplements including representatives from the Scripps faculty, National Institutes of Health, American Botanical Council, and other industry and academic personnel.

The first place award in the Original Clinical Research category was determined during a peer-review by the program research committee based on the trial design, originality, interpretation, and the relevance of the content to the conference theme. The title of the award winning poster was A Prospective, Randomized, Double Blind Study to Evaluate the Effect of Orally Administered Adenosine Triphosphate on Peripheral Perfusion Pressure in Adult Men and Women and the study was sponsored by Technical Sourcing International of Missoula, MT. The abstract will be published in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine and a full-length publication of the trial results is expected later this year.
