Natural Products Expo West 2005 Demonstrates Growth of the Health and Nutrition Industry

Largest Natural and Organic Products Show in North America Expects Another Record Attendance

BOULDER, Colo., Feb 1, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Today, many U.S. consumers, especially aging boomers, recognize that healthy foods, products and dietary supplements are part of a preventive healthcare package they can take into their own hands. This demographic of health-seekers is pushing the natural and organics industry to 10 percent growth annually. Timely health and nutrition topics -- special diets, children's health challenges, anti-aging solutions, healthy convenience food and new organic products -- fill four jam-packed days at the Natural Products Expo West trade show, held March 17 to 20, at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, Calif.

In its 25th year, Natural Products Expo West, produced by New Hope Natural Media, a division of Penton Media, showcases products from more than 1,500 exhibitors in the areas of natural and organic foods, health supplements, personal care products and more. More than 36,000 professional and trade attendees from more than 80 countries attended last year's event.

The natural products industry is part of what Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ) calls the "Healthy Planet, Healthy Products" (HP2) market. NBJ calculates the HP2 market at $440 billion. "These products and services have been driven by a segment of the population seeking companies and solutions that reflect their concern for both personal and environmental health," said Grant Ferrier, publisher of NBJ. "Consumer demand for healthier lifestyles and a healthier planet have also impacted government policy and product development -- creating opportunity for two or three generations of entrepreneurs."

Natural Product Expo West Pavilions make it easy to navigate more than 250,000 square feet of tradeshow floor. Categories include Foods, Health Care, Natural Home and Textiles, Organic, Personal Care, Pet, Supplements, Vegetarian and Wine and Beer. Focused Buyer Programs will identify exhibits, seminars and events throughout the show in natural and organic foodservice, special diets, sports supplements, ethnic foods, anti-aging, branded ingredients, grab-n-go and kids' products. The show floor is open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Thursday, March 17 is designated Education Day with free seminars covering important trends in the health and nutrition industry. Thursday also marks the 14th annual Fresh Ideas Organic Marketplace from noon. to 5:30 p.m. This event combines a traditional farmers' market atmosphere with a focused business-to-business event for buyers and sellers of certified organic products.

On Friday, March 18, Natural Products Expo West will hold its Press Briefing and Luncheon at noon. Speakers will include Andrew Weil, M.D. and other newsmakers who will address key topics in the industry. Also on Friday, at 3 p.m., New Hope Natural Media will hold a Meet the Editors event at Booth #2436. Editors from New Hope's publications, including Delicious Living, Natural Foods Merchandiser, Natural Grocery Buyer, Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals and Nutrition Business Journal will meet show exhibitors and guests. This year, Delicious Living will celebrate its 20th anniversary during the Meet the Editors event. Friday evening, the Silk/New Hope Natural Media concert -- free to all attendees -- will feature The Neville Brothers and Michael Franti & Spearhead.

Nicholas Perricone, M.D., F.A.C.N. will deliver the keynote address on Saturday, March 19 from 9 to 10 a.m. Perricone will discuss his three-tiered approach to anti-aging as outlined in his new book, The Perricone Promise.
