NNFA: Support H.R. 4167, the National Uniformity for Food Act

We need your help to support legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives that will reduce costs for natural products businesses and consumers.

A bill being considered on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives this week will reduce costs for manufacturers and retailers of foods and dietary supplements. H.R. 4167, the National Uniformity for Food Act, would replace varying state-imposed food safety and labeling regulations with one federally mandated standard. As a result, manufacturers would only be required to adhere to one set of requirements, not many.

While H.R. 4167 would mend the patchwork of state laws nationwide, it does not bar state action to ensure foods are safe, as some have claimed. What H.R. 4167 will do is prevent states from bottlenecking interstate commerce of food products, including dietary supplements, by heaping on unnecessary and burdensome warning requirements.

Both retail and supply members of NNFA will benefit if H.R. 4167 is passed. Manufacturers will be able to reduce production costs by not having to label their products differently for different states. Retailers would be able to pass their savings onto their customers.

Tell your representatives to vote “Yes” on H.R. 4167 which would reduce the burdens imposed on supplement manufacturers and nutritional food producers .
