Illinois Governor Pat Quinn recently presented NOW International, the global division of award-winning dietary supplement, natural personal care and health food manufacturer NOW Foods, with the Governor’s Export Award for Continuing Excellence in Exporting in the large company (over 500 employees) category. This distinguished award recognizes businesses that exemplify significant contributions to Illinois’ economic development in the fields of export and manufacturing, service, and agribusiness.
Mary Rose Hennessy, Executive Director, Business Innovation Services of the University of Illinois Business Coalition, nominated NOW for the award.
This was the second time the State of Illinois honored NOW International’s track record of growing exports; the company received a similar award for 2008. The company has also been recognized twice with the US President’s “E” Award for Achievement in Export; the highest single award a business can receive from the United States government.
“This is a great example of teamwork and is in recognition of our vision to be a trusted global provider of natural products in support of our mission to empower people to lead healthier lives,” said NOW Foods president Al Powers. He accepted the award from Illinois Governor Pat Quinn at a ceremony held at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Other NOW International personnel attending the ceremony were NOW International Sales Manager Philip Pittsford, Morgan Coghill, Ashli Blauser, and Vickie Velasco.
Pittsford added, “the dedication of our international team and the support of the company make our success in growing exports possible.”
NOW Foods steady growth and expansion has created the need for additional workers in positions related to manufacturing and quality assurance, with 201 new jobs added in the last three years.
Since Oct 2000 NOW International, based in Bloomingdale, Illinois, has actively sought out export markets and has utilized many of the services offered through the state of Illinois Trade Office and the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture. Both have been instrumental in helping NOW to significantly grow their International division.
NOW International sells nutritional products to more than 70 countries on six continents, and offers products and literature in over 15 languages to provide a local voice to a global brand name.
