The Natural Products Association (NPA), the dietary supplement industry’s oldest and largest trade association, will host a media conference call to discuss NPA’s comments about the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) “Draft Guidance for Industry: Dietary Supplements: New Dietary Ingredient Notifications and Related Issues.” The conference call will be this Friday, December 2, at 11 a.m. Eastern. Join the call by emailing your name and publication to [email protected].
NPA submitted its comments to the FDA on Wednesday, November 30. The comments identify serious problems with the draft, including a number of provisions that significantly overstep the authority granted by Congress in the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). As a result, NPA calls on the FDA to substantially rewrite the guidance and, in the meantime, refrain from making enforcement decisions based on the draft. Download a copy of NPA’s comments.
On the conference call, you will hear from John Gay, NPA’s executive director and CEO, and Dr. Cara Welch, NPA’s vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs.
