The full list of products issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to be recalled following the suspension of the licence of PAN Pharmaceuticals Limited of Sydney will be published in all daily and weekly regional papers in Australia from tomorrow.
The complete list of 1369 recalled products will appear in regional newspapers from Saturday.
Where a regional newspaper does not publish on Saturday, the advertisement listing the recalled products will be published in the next available edition.
Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Trish Worth, said that the recall advertisement will spread over 16 to 20 pages of regional papers.
“The sheer size of the recall – believed to the largest drug recall anywhere in the world – means we will ensure the information reaches all parts of Australia,” Ms Worth said.
“I have spoken with a number of coalition MPs in regional areas and agree that it is vital this information is spread as far as possible.
“I hope it will be appreciated that getting this product information typeset and even meeting deadlines for major daily newspapers has been difficult.
“The TGA has been working around the clock to provide recall information through as many sources as possible, including their website and a 1800 number.
“The call centre established by the TGA to handle enquiries from the general public received more than 320,000 calls in its first two days of operation, and is being staffed by 160 phone operators. Many of these enquiries are from country consumers.”
