Pharmintech Grows More Wide-Ranging and International

Pharmintech, the exhibition dedicated to the pharmaceutical-related industry and services opens its doors on May 12th in Bologna.

The exhibition is expected to be a full success: this edition is more wide-ranging, international, well-established and increasingly effective in fulfilling the needs of the international pharmaceutical, personal care and nutraceutical business community worldwide.

The exhibition, now in its third edition, boasts excellent figures and esteemed participants. It enjoys the support of the most representative associations of the pharmaceutical industry and the leadership of Farmindustria’s head, Sergio Dompé.

Just over one month from the official opening, the organizers are still receiving participation requests; exhibitors have exceeded the 300 notch, 10% more compared to the previous edition with 41% of new entries.

The total surface of the exhibition reaches about 7,000 m occupying pavilions 19 and 22 of Bolognafiere exhibition complex with a single-storey layout. The 2010 edition of Pharmintech is marked by a striking international reach: as much as 35% of exhibitors come from outside of Italy, with a very significant participation (54% of total international exhibitors) from Germany.

Pharmintech 2010 attracts a remarkable international interest also in terms of visitors: over 1000 registrations since the activation of the pre-registration system with a substantial percentage of international visitors, in addition to 70 delegates from 23 countries and a strong presence of international press coming from all over the globe.

The exhibition’s major attraction is the all-comprehensive, well-assorted display of products, featuring what has come to be known as “the Pharmintech supply industry”, one of the highlights of the event. It comprises companies supplying pharmaceutical, personal care and nutraceutical production including raw materials, processing and packaging technology, ancillary equipment and services. This edition of Pharmintech also features the debut of companies offering contract services – manufacturing and packaging – for the pharmaceutical industry. This outsourcing trend is a recent global phenomenon quickly spreading throughout the globe, making it one of the world’s fastest-growing industries and a subject of research for Pharmintech Observatory.

In addition to the latest news regarding the product display, Pharmintech presents two areas dedicated to research and innovation. Ten Italian universities, all committed to developing new pharmaceutical technology, will present their activities and achievements at “Meet the future. Universities and Research at Pharmintech 2010“, a project promoted by Ipack-Ima Spa with the support of Farmindustria.

The latest technological innovations developed by exhibitors will be showcased at the “Innovation Corner“, a piazza hosted in pavilion 22 open to all visitors who will have the opportunity to choose among 6 daily presentations of one hour each. In particular, on May 13th the presentations will focus on drug traceability.

Pharmintech is backed by a prestigious agenda of meetings, including the event organized by Ipack-Ima spa in cooperation with international associations ISPE and PDA, held on the eve of the exhibition’s official opening.

One of the climaxes of the programme is the presentation of the third report by Pharmintech Observatory, a research project supported by Ipack-Ima Spa and managed by CNR researcher and Industrial Economists’ Association secretary Giampaolo Vitali. The Report, now in its third edition, will relate on the economic importance, role, current status and top-range products of the industry supplying pharmaceutical, personal care and nutraceutical production.

There will be more meetings and round-table discussions focusing on specific topics throughout the exhibition. The Italian Packaging Institute has scheduled a meeting to discuss medical devices, a very sensitive issue for companies working in the industry. The development of contract services will be the core of a specific debate organized by contract companies as part of Farmindustria.
