MISSOULA, MT (January 13, 2005) – Technical Sourcing International, Inc. (TSI) announced today that its proprietary PEAK ATP™ ingredient was the subject of a winning poster presentation at the second annual Natural Supplements: An Evidence-Based Update conference, organized by the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine and co-sponsored by the University of California, San Diego, which took place January 7-9 in San Diego. The human clinical trial provided evidence that a single oral dose of PEAK ATP (adenosine triphosphate) increased peripheral perfusion pressure and oxygenation in healthy men and women, indicating the ingredient may be an effective treatment for patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), the most common manifestation of systemic atherosclerosis.
The conference, whose objective was to present a concise, clinically relevant overview of natural supplements in evidence-based practice, hosted a research competition to acknowledge new research in the area of natural supplement use in three categories: original clinical research, comprehensive review of existing research, and student research.
The PEAK ATP study, entitled “A Prospective, Randomized, Double Blind Study to Evaluate the Effect of Orally Administered Adenosine Triphosphate on Peripheral Perfusion Pressure in Adult Men and Women,” and performed by the Minnesota Applied Research Center (MARC), won the award in the category of original clinical research. Key considerations were basis of trial design, originality, and potential for future application. The poster was presented by John L. Zenk, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Joy L. Frestedt, PhD, Executive Director of Research, Sandra A. Leikam, RN, CCRC, and Sinoun Tep of MARC and Michael A. Kuskowski, PhD, of the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN. The abstract will be published in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. A full-length publication of the trial results is expected later this year.
Twelve healthy men and women with a mean age of 49.7 years participated in the study. Each participant was administered three treatments over the course of three one-hour visits – placebo, PEAK ATP 100 mg and PEAK ATP 250 mg. Participants were randomized to receive each treatment in a crossover study design with a 7-day washout period between treatments. Arterial systolic pressure, pulse measurements of arterial blood oxygen saturation, and electrocardiogram were obtained at baseline, as well as one hour before and one hour after administration of the test substance. PEAK ATP administration effectively increased upper and lower extremity perfusion pressure as well as upper extremity oxygenation. The researchers concluded that “oral administration of ATP may be a safe and effective treatment to increase peripheral perfusion pressure and oxygenation in patients with PAD.”
PEAK ATP is the first legitimate entry of supplemental ATP into the marketplace and the only ATP clinically tested to demonstrate its effectiveness. Additionally, PEAK ATP is the only ATP backed by the unique portfolio of ATP patents developed through decades of exhaustive research by Dr. Eliezer Rapaport, considered one of the world’s foremost authorities on ATP.
