The speakers will present "Functional Food and Cancer" which will explore functional food and its possibilities and the clinical significance of AHCC. Kamiyama and Kenner will speak at the Nutracon conference March 6, at 10:15 a.m. in room 201B, and again at Expo West March 7, at 2:30 p.m. in room 205A. Both events are scheduled in the Anaheim Convention Center.

Since 1992, Dr. Yasuo Kamiyama has been the director and professor at Kansai Medical University, in Osaka, Japan, where he specializes in liver surgery. He held previous positions at Kyoto University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Maryland at Baltimore and Kyoto City Hospital. While working as an active surgeon, he explores the clinical possibility of functional food.

He is licensed to practice oriental medicine in Japan and the U.S. and currently teaches at the National University of Naturopathic Medicine, as well as various other educational institutions in the U.S. and Europe.

Fred Pescatore, M.D., M.P.H., and medical director of the U.S. AHCC Research Association, is launching his latest book The Allergy and Asthma Cure at Expo West. The book discusses the properties of AHCC used as a nutritional supplement to treat allergies. He is the author of Thin For Good and Feed Your Kids Well, a book recognized as the top children's health book of 2000. He also appears regularly as a guest on national media as an integrative medical specialist. Dr. Pescatore currently has a private practice called The Centers For Integrative and Complementary Medicine with offices in New York City and Dallas. There he treats diabetes, heart disease, hepatitis, and cancer patients, as well as those with more daily concerns, by employing a combination of both alternative and traditional Western medicine.

AHCC is derived from a highly specialized manufacturing process developed in the mid-1980s that relies on the hybridization of several species of mushrooms cultivated in Japan. According to industry analysts in Japan, currently over 700 hospitals and medical clinics recommend AHCC to patients in that country as part of an immune support regimen. AHCC has been the subject of numerous clinical studies conducted at prestigious Japanese institutions such as Hokkaido University, Kyorin University and Teikyo University.
