(Silver Spring, MD) -- Carbonfund.org today announced its newest partner, Ribbon Nutrition, a progressive Vitamin/Supplement company created to help fund non-profit organizations in the fight against Breast Cancer. Ribbon Nutrition has taken an industry-leading position by offsetting not only its own production and operations, but also all shipping involved in delivering products to its customers.
Ribbon Nutrition has worked hard to reduce the impacts of its operations by doing things such as implementing strict reuse and recycling procedures within its office and making environmental education and outreach a priority, but it struggled to account for the emissions that were produced by producing its products and shipping them to retailers and consumers.
Carbonfund.org used its Carbonfree™ Shipping application, which was developed jointly with Carnegie Mellon University’s Green Design Institute, to calculate the impact of the shipment and delivery of products and then helped Ribbon Nutrition offset the resulting CO2. The organization has also helped Ribbon Nutrition to assess its carbon footprint within its manufacturing, production, and offices. Ribbon Nutrition bottles and shipments will carry the official Carbonfree™ logo beginning immediately.
“In addition to doing everything we can to minimize our impact on climate change, one of our goals as a company is to educate people about the profound connections between the environment and diseases such as Breast Cancer,” said Stephen Hennessy, co-founder of Ribbon Nutrition. "Nearly everything we do on this planet is connected. It’s a beautiful circle of life that needs to be protected. By partnering with Carbonfund.org we will hopefully not only demonstrate our commitment, but more than that help make people more aware of just how closely connected their health is to the health of the planet.”
“We applaud Ribbon Nutrition for their leadership on climate change,” said Eric Carlson, Carbonfund.org’s executive director. “Not only is Ribbon Nutrition taking responsibility for the carbon footprint associated with its own operations, it is also making a significant outreach effort to its customers to engage them on climate change and demonstrate how easy taking action can be.”
“We are really excited to be working with Carbonfund.org, in particular, because of their activist and visionary approach towards fighting climate change. From our first conversations with them they understood the complexity of our organization and our social and environmental goals as a company. We’re currently working with them to assess our carbon footprint within every aspect of our business--from our production, to our offices, to our shipping--and they’re making it simple for us to be the kind of globally responsible business we want to be,” said Stephen Hennessy.
Adds Jim Powers, Ribbon Nutrition co-founder, “We absolutely see this as a long-term partnership with Carbonfund.org. Even more than that, we’re inspired to tell other businesses just how important, and easy, it is for them to contribute towards a sustainable planet.”
