S. BLACK and MUNTONS Form New Alliance

S. Black Ltd are delighted to announce that they have been appointed to represent Muntons PLC for the sales and technical support of malt and malt extracts for the UK confectionery, non- yeast baked goods, ready meals, snacks, seasonings and beverage markets, with the exception of certain large national accounts whom Muntons will continue to supply direct. Muntons comprehensive product range consists of liquid malt extracts, spray dried and band dried extracts, malt flours, and speciality blends. They impart exciting texture, flavour and colour in many food and drink applications.

Muntons are a leading manufacturer of malted ingredients and due to recent acquisitions, has expanded rapidly over the last five years. Subsequently, Muntons identified a need to increase their sales resource in order to effectively communicate, offer technical support and identify new development opportunities within the UK.

S. Black’s well-established technical and sales teams are now able to advise on malted ingredients and are well placed to assist in new project briefs. The company has a fully equipped development kitchen, staffed by development and flavour technologists, who are experienced in a wide range of sweet and savoury foods, confectionery and beverages.

Key market sectors include confectionery, where malt has real benefits for both chocolate confectionery, as well as in cereals and cereal bars.
Malt is synergistic with chocolate so a richer flavour can be developed without a malty taste. Malt extracts in confectionery create colour, texture and crispness whilst providing natural sweetness without sucrose. In cereal bars extra nutty/ cereal flavour and uniformity of colour can be naturally achieved.

Another principal market for Muntons ingredients for S. Black will be the beverage sector. In beverages, malt is beneficial for health, nutrition and natural sweetness, replacing sugar. In chocolate drinks they naturally enhance the colour and chocolate notes proving flavour definition and enhancement. For coffee substitutes malted ingredients provide roasted coffee notes and caffeine free colour.

Additionally, malted ingredients offer real benefits to the rapidly growing energy drink sector where high levels of maltose are used, which combined with S. Black’s extensive functional ingredient portfolio, creates a significant product offering.
