TruCal™ from Glanbia achieves GRAS Status

Glanbia Ingredients announces that TruCal™ Real Calcium from Milk has achieved GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status.

TruCal™ can be used to fortify food and beverages and enrich dairy products in categories such as nutrition bars, bakery products, sports beverages, and isotonic beverages. Glanbia recommends the use of whey mineral concentrate at levels consistent with current calcium supplementation guidelines, such as those of the National Academy of Sciences (which recommends between 1000 and 1300mg of calcium per day for adults, with a tolerable upper limit of 2500 mg per day).

“Many Americans do not consume enough calcium and other essential minerals in their diet, and diseases such as osteoporosis and brittle bones have become a very big concern in the population. GRAS status will help dairy calcium achieve recognition as a leading source of calcium and mineral fortification” says Jerry O’Dea, General Manager of Glanbia Ingredients.
