UC-II® Force Plate Data Shows Joint-Health Benefits for Dogs

A new research study, presented at the Society of Toxicology's 48th Annual Meeting & ToxExpo™, further demonstrates that 40 mg a day of UC-II®, InterHealth Nutraceuticals' signature joint-health ingredient, helps to promote joint comfort and mobility in dogs without any adverse effects. "The results of the placebo-controlled study further confirm a comprehensive body of evidence published in peer-reviewed journals that demonstrates the safety and benefits of UC-II in dogs," said Manashi Bagchi, PhD, FACN, one of the lead researchers of the study and Director of R&D at InterHealth. Just 40 mg of UC-II a day has also been shown to be efficacious in humans-promoting joint health better than 1500 mg of glucosamine + 1200 mg chondroitin.

UC-II's effectiveness in promoting canine joint health was determined by using Kistler Instruments Ground Force Plate, a benchmark for the objective quantitative assessment of joint pain and discomfort in dogs. Ground force plate analysis is determined by measuring peak force and impulse area. Peak force is important because it objectively measures the amount of weight the dog is bearing on a given limb and impulse area objectively measures the amount of force applied by the limb onto the plate. "UC-II significantly increased peak force by 18% and impulse area by 44% after 120 days, suggesting a significant increase in joint comfort and mobility," stated Dr. Bagchi. In addition, subjective parameters measured after limb manipulation and exercise also demonstrated a significant increase in joint comfort. Both subjective and objective data are needed to support or complement each other in assessing joint health.

"UC-II was well tolerated in osteoarthritic dogs with no adverse effects," stated lead researcher Dr. Ramesh C. Gupta, DVM, PhD, DABT, Professor and Head of Toxicology at Murray State University, Hopkinsville, Ky. As a veterinarian, Dr. Gupta has seen firsthand the need for safe and effective joint-support products for these animals. "UC-II offers a safe way for pet owners to help ensure joint comfort and mobility for their dogs."

"Pet supplements should meet the same standards of safety and efficacy that are required of products for humans," commented Paul Dijkstra, InterHealth's CEO. "UC-II is not only sourced and manufactured in the United States, but InterHealth utilizes a patented, low-temperature GMP manufacturing standard process to ensure its quality and safety."

Research results were presented at the Society of Toxicology 48th Annual Meeting & ToxExpo™, March 15-19th in Baltimore, Maryland.
