Lacey, WA – December 16, 2004 – Univera, Inc., the holding company for Unigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Aloecorp, Inc. and Oasis LifeSciences, was warmly welcomed to Washington State on Friday, December 10, at its Grand Opening celebration. Local, state and national dignitaries, along with employees, friends and neighbors in the South Puget Sound business community, attended the event to celebrate Univera’s move to Lacey from Broomfield, Colorado on September 1.
Immediately following a private facility tour for media and VIP guests, which included a light luncheon, the celebration officially kicked off with an elegant, traditional Korean dance performance by the Morning Star Dance Troupe, a talented group of Korean-born youth who have all been adopted by American families.
175 guests were welcomed by Univera’s Chairman of the Board, B. (Bill) William Lee, and the company’s Vice Chairman and CEO, Derek Hall, who introduced honored guests and speakers. Included were Washington State Senator Paull Shin, Korean Consul Jae-Hak Jang, Deputy Director of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Juliette Kelly, and CEO of Namyang Aloe in Korea, Youngwhan Kim. VIP guests included Lacey Mayor Virgil Clarkson, several city, state and county officials, members of the Thurston County Economic Development Council, and both the Lacey and Thurston County Chambers of Commerce.
A ribbon cutting ceremony officially marked the opening of Univera’s doors at its new interim facility located at 2660 Willamette Dr NE. As Univera’s Derek Hall looked on, the ribbon was eagerly cut in tandem by Deputy Director Julliette Kelly, Univera’s Bill Lee, Lacey Mayor Virgil Clarkson and Senator Paull Shin.
When addressing the crowd, Bill Lee thanked the governmental and economic groups who were incredibly supportive in encouraging Univera to come to Washington State and who assisted with its relocation. He specifically mentioned Senator Shin, who has become a friend and kindred spirit and whose help and counsel proved invaluable during the transition. He spoke about being a good corporate citizen, with ideals that celebrate and create harmony between science and nature.
Lee shared his dream for Univera to become a major factor in the Washington State economy and to be as well recognized as Microsoft and Boeing. He looked ahead to the future and invited everyone present to the 50th year celebration, jesting that with the help of Univera’s products, both he and the entire audience will still be in good shape at that time.
Derek Hall, Vice Chairman and CEO of Univera, said, “I want to thank our VIP guests, the media, and our business colleagues who joined us on a rainy day to celebrate this momentous occasion. Univera has its feet firmly planted in the ground here in Lacey, and we look forward to establishing meaningful relationships with our neighbors and other members of this fruitful community.”
