Canada-based biotech company Advitech Inc. has announced that a second preclinical study conducted by Dr Charles Doillon, MD, PhD from the Oncology and Molecular Endocrinology department of the Centre de Recherche du Centre Hospitalier de l'Université Laval ('CHUL') has provided new indications of the wound healing properties of a milk-derived fraction originating from the research work on its XP828L and IM technological platforms.

Fatty acids treat dry eyes
The omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid, found in plants such as flax, was found to significantly decrease the clinical signs of dry eye syndrome in animals when applied topically. The study was published in the February 2008 issue of Archives of Ophthalmology.

Hawthorn a thorn in the side of heart failure
A meta-analysis of 14 double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trials validated hawthorn extract as able to treat chronic heart failure. The review comes on the heels of a recent study, by Bioforce USA (which markets Cardiaforce brand hawthorn extract), that arrived at a similar conclusion for the heart herb.
