Las Vegas, Nov.6, 2007 – Cognis Nutrition & Health invited customers and prospects to look, listen, learn and profit from opportunities at SupplySide West designed to help them launch successful foods, beverages and supplements with Omega-3 fatty acids.
“As a major supplier in the competitive Omega-3 market, Cognis understands customers’ needs for technical know-how necessary to address formulation challenges and help them avoid costly and time-consuming mistakes,” said Dave Eckert, Vice President, Cognis Nutrition & Health. “SupplySide West offers the perfect venue to help industry colleagues discover why all Omega-3’s are not created equal. While more consumers are getting hooked each day on the benefits of Omega-3’s, the challenge of creating tasty, appealing and safe products is putting enormous pressures on formulators. We’re here to help simplify that process.”
Cognis’ Omevital™ Omega-3’s – Unsurpassed Safety, Quality and Taste
Since entering the Omega-3 market last year, Cognis’ unique network of Omega-3 experts is helping distinguish the company as a market leader. Cognis’ Omevital™ (ō-may-vee-tall) product range offers unsurpassed safety, quality and taste. Every batch is tested for 250+ contaminants and impurities, exceeding the CRN monograph for purity by 75 percent. Cognis’ pharmaceutical GMP certification guarantees full compliance with new supplement GMP regulations. Extra molecular distillation steps allow pure, clean flavor and aroma. For dietary supplements, Cognis offers a turnkey bottling program to ensure accountability from the crude oil to the finished product which streamlines manufacturing and reduces costs.

At the IFT Food Expo in July, Cognis unveiled its new Omevital™ Omega-3 fatty acid ingredients for foods and beverages. The first ingredient of several to debut under the brand name Omevital™, Omevital™1812 TG Gold, is an oil developed for dairy products, spreads and other fat-based applications. Cognis’ Omevital™ contains an optimum ratio of the long-chain fatty acids, EPA and DHA, known to enhance overall vitality. Omevital™1812 TG Gold has excellent stability and typical use levels of 100-250 mg per serving.

Omevital™ is produced at Napro Pharma, a fully owned member of the Cognis Group. Founded in 1986, Napro is located in Brattvaag on the west coast of Norway and is the only production facility with a pharmaceutical license to produce, pack and label fish oil. Cognis’ food technology team in Illertissen, Germany is developing new Omevital™ ingredients for specific food applications based on its decades of experience and expertise in lipid technology.

In the coming months, Cognis will also promote a series of Omevital™ co-branding programs for customers. “The Omevital™ team will be working in markets around the world to support the launch of Omega-3 retail products with successful marketing strategies and co-promotional opportunities to stimulate consumer demand,” Mr. Eckert said.

Omega-3 Educational Session (Tues., Nov. 6 at noon in room Lido 3101-3102)
To help meet increasing consumer demand for Omega-3 foods and beverages, valuable tips are being presented by Cognis’ Scott Backman, Market Development Manager, and Greg Horn, Senior Director, Technology and Innovation at WILD Flavors, Inc. “Technical issues are stalling Omega-3 product launches as companies strive to address key sensory challenges. In this information-packed session, “How to create Omega-3 products that exceed consumer standards,” we will help manufacturers overcome the challenges posed by specific food and beverage applications,” Mr. Backman explained.

Featured Speaker, Dr. Jorn Dyerberg, to present: “The health benefits of Omega-3s--
