We believe that the future of our food system is in our hands - and that tomorrow really can be healthier than today if we join forces. But it doesn't come easy. We have a lot of work to do - work that requires us to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty. This year, we've once again partnered with impassioned food suppliers and brands to spread the word about transparent and sustainable ingredient sourcing, healthy innovations and, most importantly, what's needed in order to get healthier products into the hands of all people.
AFS is Feeding the Good Food Future!
Austin Texas-based, Applied Food Sciences, Inc. (AFS) is an international ingredient supplier that provides solutions to the industry for creating the healthiest natural and organic products imaginable in functional beverages, food and nutritional supplements. AFS has a mission to be a leader within the industry in sourcing ingredients in a sustainable and socially responsible manner. With their newly opened innovation center at the University of Iowa’s Bio-Ventures Center, AFS develops novel natural and organic ingredients that are highly scientifically qualified, water soluble, Non-GMO and GRAS.
Applied Food Sciences has created a Responsible Sourcing Initiative that includes: sustainable growing, socially responsible sourcing and full traceability. Its established criteria focuses around environmental stewardship in water protection, ecological pest and disease control, maintaining soil productivity, minimizing water consumption, protecting wildlife, managing waste and other important measures such as energy conservation.Â
AFS’s social responsibility criteria focus on ensuring that working conditions are safe, legal and fair. With full traceability comes economic accountability and a wealth of knowledge about AFS ingredients, including growing conditions, worker payment, hiring practices, etc. Traceability is not only a measure for quality and fairness, but an important safety measure against adulteration and bio-terrorism. This is a key element to the success of AFS’s Responsible Sourcing Initiative and its Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP), a developing requirement for all importers of botanical food products as part of the Food Safety Modernization Act.Â
