Erewhon Organic Grocery and Cafe puts passion into practice

For more than 50 years, Erewhon Organic Grocery and Cafe has served the Southern California community with a highly curated product mix that includes functional foods, adaptogens, herbs, superfoods, 100 percent organic produce, and more. Its four locations—Los Angeles, Calabasas, Venice and Santa Monica—cultivate a highly engaged, conscious and passionate shopper base.

Here are three ways Erewhon sets itself apart:

Tonic Bar. “The Tonic Bar is the heart and soul of Erewhon,” says Jason Widener, VP new store development. “Legends like Ron Teeguarden and Truth Calkins were instrumental not only in launching the Tonic Bar and Nutrition Connection, but in inspiring the community to explore and learn about the healing properties of specially crafted drinks.” This location serves as a hub for shoppers and staffers alike to discover how ingredients interact with and fuel the body.

Organic cafe and cold pressed juices. Thanks to partnerships with local suppliers and farmers, the cafe features made-in-house dishes as well as juices that are raw and cold pressed from organic ingredients. Cafe dishes run the gamut from raw to soups to salads to wood fired pizzas, including gluten-free and vegan options. Baked goods are made from scratch, including superfood donuts and muffins. Its gluten-free paleo bread is a true favorite among Angelenos, says says Widener, and the organic salad bar features dressings made in-house.

Product mix. “We take time to curate and cultivate our relationships with brands, often spending time tweaking recipes with them and even working on their packaging,” says Widener. “Whether founders reach out to us directly, via our website, or someone tells us about an amazing product they have discovered, we strongly believe that we are all in this together. It is our shared passion for organic and sustainable products that unites us—from suppliers to brands to community—and what makes Erewhon unlike any other grocer.”
