We often think of food and beverage recalls as coming from giant manufacturers and conventional companies. But even the most careful natural and organic brands can have food safety issues. And now with the passage of the Food Safety Modernization Act, the Food and Drug Administration has tightened the clamps and expanded its authority both to try and prevent these issues from happening and to deal with them when they do.

So how can small natural businesses minimize their risk of weathering a recall and having to incur all the related costs, sales losses, bad PR and, heaven forbid, consumer illnesses? Antonio Gallegos, of counsel at Greenberg Traurig LLP, walks us through the legal landscape and explains the steps small businesses should take to be as safe as possible.
