Why Country Life was named a top workplace in 2018
The supplement and personal care company is the #1 Mid-Sized Company to work at according to Newsday.
Country Life, a perennial Long Island-based supplement and personal care company, has been awarded a 2018 Top Workplaces honor by Newsday as the #1 Mid-Sized Company–a status that is achieved solely from anonymous employee feedback. Country Life’s 235 employees touted the company’s collaborative atmosphere, benefits and flexible scheduling in the Newsday survey.
“Although Country Life is no longer a family-owned company, we act as a family by maintaining family values and treating each other with mutual respect and dignity,” says Wendy Lucas, Country Life’s president. “Just as family members have their own individual footprint at home, the Country Life family embraces diversity throughout our organization, and our leadership team encourages all employees to present ideas that continually improve our culture.”
Here are three ways this certified B-Corp is putting its values into action when it comes to employees:
For their wallets. Country Life offers substantial product discounts to all employees and their families, but also awards annual holiday bonuses, Visa gift cards for Thanksgiving, and a percentage 401k match. Additionally, Country Life pays 100 percent of the life and long-term disability insurance premiums for all employees, in addition to about 80 percent of their health insurance premiums.
For their careers. An on-staff safety officer ensures a safe work environment by offering consistent training and coaching. But it doesn’t end there. “We believe in empowerment and professional growth of all our employees,” adds Lucas, “and promoting from within wherever possible.”
For their sense of worth. Quarterly town hall meetings ensure that employees are heard, and Country Life offers flexible work schedules to help its team members maintain a healthy work-life balance. Plus, Country Life continues to manufacture most of its products at its Hauppauge, NY facility, which supports the local economy.
