5 brands pushing the renewable energy trend

NEXT Trends 2020 series: In an effort to help support retailers and brands, we will be publishing regular brand features for the next few weeks. Brands are selected from those that registered to exhibit at Natural Products Expo West 2020 and were curated as great examples of one of 50 trends New Hope Network is monitoring in the marketplace.
These trends are part of New Hope Network's NEXT Expo Guidebook and trend hierarchy.
Today, we look at five companies that are innovating in the “Renewable Energy" trend within the Energy Commitments macro force. Brands are replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy commitments such as wind and solar power, as well as green roofs for insulation.
1. Goya Foods
What is it? Goya Foods sells a wide variety of Latin cuisine products.
Innovation: Goya ranks as one of the top corporate solar users in the U.S. food and beverage industry. Its new facility is equipped with 6,552 solar panels on 3.7 acres of rooftop to generate over 70% of the building’s energy supply and provide a net-zero carbon footprint. Goya is currently working on the installation of rail service, located alongside the facility, which will reduce transportation costs, traffic congestion and fuel consumption.
2. GrandyOats
What is it? Since 1979, GrandyOats has crafted small batches of organic granola, muesli, trail mix, roasted nuts and hot cereals.
Innovation: In 2015, GrandyOats purchased an unoccupied elementary school in Hiram, Maine, and installed 288 solar panels in a nearby field. GrandyOats’s solar array can generate up to 95,000 kWh of clean, renewable energy on an annual basis. The array powers ovens, lights, computers, heating and cooling for its facility.
3. HimalaSalt
What is it? HimalaSalt sells Himalayan salt that is certified organic, non-GMO, gluten free and kosher for Passover.
Innovation: HimalaSalt produces salt in a 100% onsite solar facility. The company has produced over 170,000 kWh of clean solar and sequestered over 12,000 of carbon with onsite organic farming program.
4. Farmers Hen House
What is it? Producer, processor and marketer of organic, free-range and pasture-raised shell eggs. The family-owned and operated company contracts with small family farms to produce eggs.
Innovation: Farmers Hen House's processing plant is powered 100% by solar energy. The company has nine acres of solar panels that were installed in 2014 on a field adjacent to Farmers Hen House's property.
5. Glee Gum
What is it? Glee Gum is natural chewing gum. Glee is aspartame-free, non-GMO and made with a tree sap called chicle to help conserve the rainforest.
Innovation: Glee Gum is engaged in a number of environmental initiatives, ranging from using recycled cardboard and foregoing blister packs, to partnering with Trees for the Future to plant 26,000 trees. Additionally, its offices are net-positive in terms of energy production and usage.
