Concerns over health, environment and animal welfare have driven increasingly mindful consumers to eat more plant-based foods, and others to be more thoughtful about the meat choices they make (consider this: beef consumption overall in the U.S. fell 19 percent between 2005 and 2014, yet demand for grass-fed beef enjoyed 40 percent sales growth in 2015.)
Numerous large food companies, restaurant chains and retailers have pledged to source cage-free eggs and meat from animals that were raised without antibiotics, as well as take other steps to address the health and integrity of their animal product supply chains.
