Multidrug-resistant bacteria is significantly less common in organic meat, new study finds

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2.8 million Americans contract infections that are resistant to antibiotics every year. A whopping 35,000 people die from them. This is why a landmark study released last week that discovered organic meat is half as likely to contain multidrug-resistant bacteria as conventional meat is so important to note. The study also delved into how the processing aspect of meat affects the spread of bacteria, and researchers found that those facilities that processed mainly conventional meat were more likely to be associated with bacterial contamination of any type. The Counter has the scoop.

Court rejects Bayer's glyphosate appeal

Last Friday, judges at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that the $25.3-million verdict in a lawsuit against Bayer's Monsanto for its cancer-causing Roundup product was reasonable and should be upheld. Unless the company plans on applying for a U.S. Supreme Court review, this spells the end of the road for its fight against this second plaintiff to go to court; the number of cases alleging that the product causes cancer currently exceeds 10,000. Modern Farmer reports.

Soil farmers appeal ruling allowing organic hydroponics

The Center for Food Safety and a group of organic farmers are appealing a court ruling that states USDA did not act unreasonably in its decision to allow organic certification for producers that implement hydroponics. The plaintiffs argue that hydroponic agriculture undermines the law's stipulation that organic farming enhance soil fertility; they are also blaming organic-certified hydroponic producers who operate on industrial scales for declining prices marketwide. Head to Reuters for more.

According to The Food Institute, CEO compensation rose 29% from 2019 while median worker pay fell 2% from the preceding year.
