These days, you have to do one of two things to get noticed on Facebook: advertise or provide unique content shoppers can’t get anywhere else. If you’re not quite ready to sink budget into Facebook ads, you can still stand out and connect with customers while they’re on the go. This is essential, because four out of five consumers now shop on their smart phones, according to online analytics firm comScore.

5 attraction tactics

1. Partner with like-minded organizations. A good way to get in the door with other business owners in your community is to like and comment on their Facebook pages. After a month or so of interaction, approach one with co-branding trade opportunities, such as sharing each other’s statuses or even developing unique health and wellness content (photos, blogs, articles) that you both can use.

2. Offer incentives such as coupons posted exclusively to Facebook. OK, so you might have to spend a little money to create unique coupons. Facebook’s rules indicate that sweepstakes and giveaways must run through a third-party app tab on your page, so as long as you don’t require that shoppers “like” or comment to get the coupon, you’ll be compliant. However, you can post photos of coupons and make shoppers aware that if they like your page, they will receive this content.

3. Add Facebook icons to printed fliers, checkout counters and doors. The more you connect the physical dots with the digital, the more shoppers will be prompted to join your page.

4. Add Facebook’s Like Box widget to your website. Like Box can show your most recent post, as well as how many shoppers like your page. Visit this website to get started: developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like-box.

5. Ask friends and family to share your page’s content. Don’t be bashful or overlook this tactic. Personal networks can help boost fledgling pages, especially in the beginning as you grow your audience.
