Cactus Botanics Announces Low Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid For Food and Cosmetic Industries
May 29, 2006
Hyaluronic Acid, sometimes abbreviated as HA, is present in every tissue of the body, including the synovial joint fluid, the vitreous humor of the eye, cartilage, blood vessels, extracellular matrix, skin and the umbilical cord. Retention of water is one of the most important biological functions of hyaluronic acid, second only to providing nutrients and removing waste from cells that do not have a direct blood supply, such as cartilage cells. When a lower than adequate amount of hyaluronic acid is present, nutrients cannot be moved into these cells and waste cannot be eliminated.
High molecular weight substances are not easily absorbed by the body. This too is the case with hyaluronic acid. Therefore, the lower the molecular weight of the Hyaluronic Acid, the better its absorbtion will be. However, making as low as possible a molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid is a technological challenge for many manufacturers.
Cactus Botanics' manufacturing operation has invested in the development of technology to manufacture low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid, currently producing product with a lowest molecular weight of about 5 thousand. The company is also able to provide higher molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid for those requiring it.
