Lucky's Market to open in Louisville, Kentucky

Lucky’s Market will open its first natural and specialty grocery store in Kentucky on May 14 at 200 N. Hurstbourne Pkwy. Opening day activities include a bacon-cutting ceremony and speech at 10 a.m. including four $5,000 checks given away to Eastern Area Community Ministries, YouthBuild Louisville, New Roots and Jefferson County Public School Foundation.

The Kentucky store is the sixth nationwide for Lucky’s, a Boulder favorite that expanded within Colorado and into Ohio in 2013. Stores opened earlier this year in Columbia, Mo., and Billings, Mont., with a store in St. Louis, Mo., scheduled to open in 2014 as well.

Other special events planned around the Louisville store’s opening include:

  • A grand opening party on Saturday, May 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with $1 house-made pork brats, $1 hot dogs, $1 beverages, live music, and face painting for the kids.

  • A local food fest on Sunday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with local food vendors giving out samples, and face painting for the kids.

  • 5% Days in which five percent of the day’s total net sales will go to three local organizations. Whitney Young Elementary on Tuesday, May 20th, T.T. Knight Middle School on Tuesday, May 27th,  and Westport Middle School on Tuesday, June 3rd.

  • Bags for Change. Shoppers reusing their shopping bags will get a 10-cent credit on their purchase or a wooden dime to place in one of the three boxes designated to three local charities. Lucky’s will match the total donations after the quarter is over for double the giving. The three local organizations that Lucky’s will be giving to in the first quarter are: The Arrow Fund, The Center for Women & Families, and Food Literacy Project

“We are incredibly proud to open in Kentucky,” said Bo Sharon, who founded Lucky’s Market with his wife, Trish. “We imagine our stores as an oasis of health, kindness and support, the kind of store we love to shop in ourselves. Boulder is a big town for natural food, and we hope to share the best of that in Louisville. We also hope you’ll find some new tastes for your kitchen, either as inspiring ingredients or at our chef-quality deli counter – and we cannot wait to discover some fantastic Kentucky farmers and vendors as well.”

Louisville shoppers will find a wide selection of organic, specialty and gluten-free items at the store, as well as house-made deli items, in-house cured and smoked bacon, local produce, fresh meats and seafood, a selection of beer, wine, and spirits and a decadent bakery. Free wellness activities and store “walkabouts” (for gluten-free, non-GMO and other food categories) are other features that have made Lucky’s a favorite with Boulder shoppers for more than a decade.
