SunOpta Inc. will acquire Earthwise Processors LLC, a producer of soy and other grains, based in Moorhead, Minn. SunOpta, headquartered in Norval, Ontario, Canada, will add Earthwise to its range of natural and organic, non-genetically modified companies. Terms were not disclosed.

With more than $10 million in annual revenue, Earthwise is described as ?a vertically integrated producer of organic and identity-preserved non-GMO grains.? Acquiring the business expands SunOpta?s grower base and offers it new product options in soy, organic flax and organic wheat.

?We know this business model well, have many of the same customers and operations will be easily consolidated,? SunOpta President Steve Bromley said in a news release.

SunOpta?s businesses in the natural and organic food industry include soy and grain ingredients and finished products ranging from aseptically packaged drinks to organic dairy and poultry. The company?s brands include Dakota Gourmet, Hearty & Natural and Sunrich Naturals in the United States and Pro Organics, Wild West Organic Harvest, Mu and Kettle Valley Dried Fruit in Canada.
