Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin discusses state's GMO labeling bill on PBS

On the eve of the scheduled May 8 signing of the nation's first GMO labeling legislation, Vermont's Gov. Peter Shumlin talked with PBS host Tavis Smiley.

"This isn't a judgment on whether GMOs are good bad, all we're saying is Vermont's consumers have the right to know what they buy. ... It just seems like it should be a basic right that Vermonters, and I think people across America, should be able to know whether or not they are consuming GMO food," Shumlin told Smiley.

As to threats of lawsuits by large food corporations?

He asks: Is that the way Democracy is supposed to work?
