DSM leads $3.5M investment in personalized, pill-free supplement innovation

An innovative startup company that is building a countertop appliance that dispenses a liquid shot filled with premium nutrients just closed a Series A investment round of $3.5 million. The investment was led by DSM Venturing, the venture capital arm of DSM, the world's largest nutritional ingredient supplier.

Tespo was created to provide consumers with a simpler way to take vitamins, by offering a pill-free, liquid format dispensed at home. Because the vitamins are provided in a liquid format, Tespo is able to eliminate fillers and other non-active ingredients found in many traditional supplements. Tespo is reinventing how consumers purchase and consume vitamins, how they track their efficacy, and how consumers improve their overall wellness.

“Supplement consumers are seeking alternate delivery formats and demanding increased personalization.” said Ted Mills, CEO of Tespo. “Our technology addresses these demands. Our product offering will enable consumers to build their own supplements and consolidate a variety traditional pills into one, great-tasting liquid serving. We offer consumers a convenient and simple way to remain compliant with a daily supplementation regimen.”

Launched in 2016 in Plymouth, Michigan, Tespo delivers a variety of dietary supplements that are free from the many ingredients found in traditional form factors such as pills, gummies or other powders. Its premium powder supplements are delivered through the use of a countertop dispenser, creating an on-demand liquid shot of vitamins that is easier to absorb and easier to take than other vitamin products.

Tespo Pods, circular cartridges that contains 31 individually sealed servings of premium vitamin powder, fit into the dispenser and enable Tespo to customize nutritional supplements to the unique needs of their consumers. When combined with the Tespo Dispenser, the company has created a convenient, pill-free way for consumers to remain compliant with a daily supplementation regimen.

"With a global presence and innovative research in nutrition science and ingredients, DSM is an ideal partner as we continue to develop products that address growing consumer demands," Mills said.
