NEXT Trends 2020 series: In an effort to help support retailers and brands, we will be publishing regular brand features for the next few weeks. Brands are selected from those that registered to exhibit at Natural Products Expo West 2020 and were curated as great examples of one of 50 trends New Hope Network is monitoring in the marketplace.

These trends are part of New Hope Network's NEXT Expo Guidebook and trend hierarchy.

Today, we look at five companies that are innovating in the "Science First" trend within The Power of Science macro force. Brands are stepping out ahead of product development by leveraging the scientific research to lead formulation. To have scientific proof supporting a brand’s mission and back its claims is an opportunity to differentiate and earn consumer trust.

1. Quicksilver Scientific

What is it? A manufacturer in the health and wellness realm, Quicksilver Scientific offers a phospholipid delivery system that increases bioavailability of vitamins and nutrients.

Innovation: Quicksilver says it offers testing that identifies a person's toxicity levels, protocols that effectively detoxity the body and a pharmacy of premium supplements that help consumers reach their optimal health.

2. Swiss Alp Health

What is it? Swiss Alp Health makes joint and skin formulations for healthy, mobile and graceful aging.

Innovation: Swiss Alp backs its claims up with science. For example, its BeautyCollagenMatrixb formulation was studied in a double-blind and placebo-controlled skin-biopsy study with 114 women. The study concluded that after eight weeks the synthesis of collagen and elastine was significantly increased when using the Swiss Alp Health formulation, which has bioactive and standardized collagen peptides.

3. Quten Research Institute

What is it? Quten Research Institute sells CoQ10 and curcumin supplements.

Innovation: This company is focused on products that absorb into the body, such as its water-soluble CoQ10 supplements. The company says research has shown that water-soluble CoQ10 leads to significantly higher serum levels than regular CoQ10.

4. Elementa

What is it? Dental hygiene products made with silver.

Innovation: Products like Elementa’s mouthwash contain nano silver, which kills bacteria other mouth washes leave behind because they do not penetrate the biofilm barrier on teeth.
