Beacon Discovery: Helping retailers find natural and organic products

Do you ever wish you could take the energy of Natural Products Expo West home with you? Worried you’ll have product FOMO with so many booths to visit and so little time? Or perhaps you wish there were a way to keep discovering new Expo products all year round?

Beacon Discovery is New Hope Network’s new digital discovery platform, here to help you find the needle in the haystack. Here’s what you need to know to get the most from Expo West.

Create an account or log in

The first time you log into Beacon Discovery, choose Log In you’ll be prompted to create a profile by inputting basic information and selecting if you’re a retailer or a brand.

Select your ingredient templates

Unlike any other product on the market, Beacon Discovery lets you select from three unique templates with different ingredient standards.  One you select your template, only products that fall into the approved ingredients for the template will be displayed. You can select a new template at any time. Choose the least restrictive to see the most products:

Whatever filter you use, each product on Beacon Discovery is vetted by the New Hope Network Standards team. The Standards Team ensures products on the platform comply with our Ingredient Standards and our marketing and labeling standards.

Combine filters to find what you need quickly

Beacon filters are based on SPINS shelf architecture and include more than 100 different options.  You can filter via basic natural and organic product categories such as bakery, dry goods, breakfast, supplements & vitamins and many more. Beacon also goes beyond with unique filters that allow you to further refine your search by distributor, region or a specific product attribute. Want a product that’s vegan? How about woman-owned? Certified Organic? There’s a filter for that. If you’re looking to get ultra-specific, you can also combine filters. In search of certified organic kombucha? With Beacon, you’ll quickly find that Humm Kombucha may be just what you’re looking for. 

HowGood provides sustainability data

Consumers are increasingly interested in buying products that support both people and the planet. That’s why Beacon has partnered with HowGood, a company that provides sustainability intelligence based on eight environmental and social criteria for food companies. Brands on Beacon  Discovery receive and choose to display a sustainability estimate for their products. HowGood’s data provides an apples-to-apples comparison of the sustainability assessment for products in similar categories, enabling retailers to make informed decisions when stocking their shelves. You can also use HowGood as a filter if you’re interested in only viewing products with a sustainability assessment.

Connect with brands outside of the trade shows

As you peruse the Beacon platform for new products, you can learn more about specific brands as well. Each brand page explains a brand’s mission, story, contact information, brokerage information, and importantly, how to request samples. Download a CSV or copy and paste the UPC right into your order form.

Preparing for Natural Products Expo West

Beacon just made navigating the show floor at Expo West 2024 that much easier.  You can sort for natural and organic products that will be exhibiting there.

When you click the heart icon to favorite products, Beacon will link these products to the Expo West 2024 show map, so you’ll know exactly where to find your favorites.  Make sure you use the same login for Beacon Discovery and accessing the Expo Exhibitor list in your browser or on the Expo app, so your favorites appear on the map just for you.
